Beer Description
Some beers are worth waiting for, and Rua is a wonderful example of what happens when patience, wild fermentation and exceptional ingredients come together. Created at Garage Project's experimental Wild Workshop in Wellington, Rua takes its name from the Te Reo Māori word for two, also the name given to the brewery's special American oak foeder in which this remarkable beer matures. Brewed using New Zealand malted barley and wheat, specially aged hops and Garage Project's own mixed house fermentation culture, Rua is a beautifully expressive interpretation of traditional farmhouse brewing.
Extended maturation in oak allows the beer to develop a fascinating depth of flavour, balancing refreshing acidity with the subtle complexity of mixed fermentation. Expect delicate aromas of fresh citrus, orchard fruit and rustic farmhouse character, accompanied by gentle woody undertones. On the palate, lively, juicy tartness meets soft grain character, nuanced oak and an intriguing interplay of fruity acidity and earthy fermentation notes, creating a wonderfully layered and satisfying drinking experience.
Elegant, complex and remarkably drinkable for its 7.3% strength, Rua delivers a beautifully balanced combination of refreshing sourness, gentle oak influence and sophisticated farmhouse character. The finish is crisp and pleasantly tart, with lingering fruit notes and a subtle rustic complexity. A superb showcase of Garage Project's dedication to traditional fermentation techniques and the extraordinary possibilities of patient oak maturation.
