A wonderfully rich and characterful winter speciality from Franconia's historic Brauerei Simon, Schwarze Kuni is a traditional dark Weizenbock that combines the comforting richness of roasted malts with the distinctive fruity and spicy character of Bavarian wheat beer.

Named in honour of Empress Kunigunde, a legendary figure in the history of Lauf an der Pegnitz, this seasonal strong beer pours a beautiful deep chocolate-brown with a generous, creamy tan head. Enticing aromas of freshly baked dark bread, ripe banana, roasted malt and delicate clove spice create a wonderfully inviting introduction.

On the palate, layers of toasted bread, dark chocolate and gentle caramel sweetness mingle with fruity banana notes and subtle yeast-derived spice. The combination of wheat and barley malts provides a satisfyingly full-bodied, smooth mouthfeel, while lively carbonation keeps the beer remarkably drinkable despite its considerable strength.

Finishing with lingering roasted malt, delicate fruitiness and a gentle alcoholic warmth, Schwarze Kuni is a magnificent example of traditional Franconian brewing. A superb winter warmer and an excellent companion to hearty roasted meats, mature cheeses and rich chocolate desserts.
