Simple Things Fermentations - Scottish Heavy

Sometimes the simplest things really are the best! Scottish Heavy is a wonderfully traditional 3.8% Scottish 70 Shilling Ale from Glasgow's Simple Things Fermentations, brewed in collaboration with fellow Scottish brewers Alechemy Brewing. Celebrating one of Scotland's most underrated beer styles, this beautifully crafted ale puts rich, comforting malt flavours firmly in the spotlight. Brewed with a carefully selected combination of Maris Otter, Aromatic and Chocolate malts, alongside wheat and oats, Scottish Heavy delivers an impressive depth of flavour while remaining wonderfully approachable and effortlessly drinkable.

Pouring an inviting reddish-amber colour, Scottish Heavy offers enticing aromas of toasted bread, sweet malt and delicate fruit preserves. Maris Otter and Aromatic malts provide a deliciously rich foundation of freshly baked toast and jammy sweetness, while Chocolate malt contributes a beautiful reddish hue and subtle roasted complexity. Wheat and oats introduce a satisfyingly rounded body, while English Archer hops deliver delicate floral notes and a refreshing burst of orange citrus. A carefully measured addition of coriander introduces a gentle aromatic spice, beautifully complementing the beer's juicy fruit character.

Smooth, balanced and delightfully satisfying, Scottish Heavy is a superb example of how much flavour can be packed into a modest 3.8% ABV. Gentle hop bitterness provides just enough balance to the malt sweetness, leading to a clean, refreshing finish with lingering fruity notes and a subtle touch of spice. A magnificent modern interpretation of a classic Scottish pub beer, perfect for those who appreciate traditional brewing styles, beautifully balanced flavours and a proper pint without the hefty alcohol content!
