To Ol wanted to make a stout that had a thick mouthfeel but mainatined a low alcohol percentage. They obtained this by adding a solid amount of lactose in the beer. The yeast strain used is not capable of fermenting lactose, so when the beer stops fermenting all lactose still remains in the beer. The result is a thick mouth feel without being an overly sweet or overly strong stout.

Kick-Start is our wake up juice. We take a strong and dark malt base, fill it with oats, and brew up a rich stout. Into that we steep freshly roasted Colombian coffee beans, courtesy of Southampton's Mozzo Coffee. The aroma is rich espresso whilst the flavour brings the malt base together - rich chocolate, roasted barley, and more coffee blend with the beans produce a thick, rich broth.
Honourably named after New Zealand's national style of barista coffee. A title that has been wrestled away from freeze dried instant coffee and made our country one of the best coffee nations in the world. In our own humble opinion.... Brewed with coffee, vanilla beans and lactose.
