Achel 8 Bruin
Brouwerij der Sint-Benedictusabdij de Achelse Kluis
Achel was only founded in 1998 but the abbey has a brewing history that stretches all the way back to 1648. This Bruin (Dubbel) has a dark amber to brown hue and a strong offwhite head that smells of dark fruits. The body is appropriately thin, a side effect of using "candi" sugar to make the beer brown and boost the alcohol content. Phenolic flavours from the yeast are prevalent flavours; pepper and clove with a bit of pear/banana as well as hints dark dried fruits. This complex beer finishes nice and dry.
