Electric Bear's first step into barrel-ageing and the relationship between wood and beer. For this imperial stout they've taken a coffee and cocoa base beer and split it between port and bourbon barrels to see what both fortified wine and spirit can bring to beer.
The port barrel brings the heady aromas and heart-warming vapours from a freshly popped bottle of tawny. This beer is perfect for leather armchairs and nights by the fire with a fine cheese. The grapes are present from beginning to end and the beer has taken more flavour from the wood more readily. Charred/caramelised hedgerow fruits elevate the ripeness of this stout making it surprisingly juicy.
