The Big Smoke
We’ve taken our best porter recipe and added a good measure of the famous Bamberg Rauchmalz (beechwood smoked malt). The smoke mingles beautifully with the rich, dark roasted chocolate flavours of the porter without being overpowering.
The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smoked beer, brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smokey aroma is noticeable and combines with a fine hoppy note. This full bodied, highly drinkable lentbeer has a strong malty flavour, smokey taste and a light bitterness.
Schlenkerla smoked wheat beer is an ale with light smoky aroma. A typical Bavarian wheat beer it is brewed with a mixture of both barley malt and wheat malt. The barley malt is the classic Schlenkerla smoked malt, while the wheat malt remains unsmoked. Served unfiltered with its natural haziness, Schlenkerla Wheat reaches its full aroma through bottle fermentation with fine top fermenting yeast.
Bamberg’s speciality, a dark, bottom fermented smoked beer, brewed with Original Schlenkerla Smoked malt from the Schlenkerla maltings and tapped according to old tradition directly from the gravity-fed oakwood cask in the historical brewery tavern.
A celebratory beer by Yeastie Boys. They said it couldn’t be done, that it would be undrinkable and, to be fair, many of them still do... But we like to do our own thing. This one-off batch of imperial-strength Rex Attitude is a self-indulgent celebration of being awarded the Morton Coutts Trophy for Innovation at BrewNZ 2011. Dedicated to all the peat freaks who have let us know how much they enjoy Rex: your love helps us through the hate - thank you.
Inspired by London’s Industrial Revolution when Smog filled the air and the Porter was the beer of the people. An original home brew recipe using 9 different malts including a good chunk of smoked ‘Rauchmaltz’ from Bamberg, Germany. Big flavour hits of molasses, raisins and caramel are cut with the resinous US hop Chinook. Smokey aromas fly, reminiscent of the smoke stacks of industrial London.
With an interesting colour of a friar’s frock, this beer is characterised by a thick cappuccino-coloured foam. On the nose, it has smoked notes recalling scamorza and toasting notes recalling coffee. In the mouth, it’s more delicate and features notes of liquorice, cocoa and dried fruit (carob) which come along with a delicate bitter taste due to the toasting of malts.
Smoked Baltic Porter-style beer. Dark and intense colour. This extreme version of their Ghisa beer, presents smokey and toasty scents. The coffee, bitter cocoa and toffee fragrances match notes of red fruits in alcohol. This beer is full-bodied and with a oily texture in which you can find chocolate and caramel flavours. The final weedy notes create an elegant balance and make it extremely easy to drink.
Dirty Sanchez is a Smoked Porter with notes of chocolate and wood smoke. Fierce Beer then add a sombrero-full of Chipotle Chilli. Smooth and warming, then Kaboom! – a hard ass chilli kick.
